According to today’s Variety, Paramount is so jazzed about the success of the new Indy that they’re getting ready to dry-heave another part 4 in one of their other long-dormant franchises..
Yes folks, Eddie Murphy is ready to play Det. Axel Foley once again in a new installment in the BEVERLY HILLS COP series..
And he wants Brett Ratner to direct..
For those who don’t know, this is the asshole who is responsible for the RUSH HOUR franchise, as well as single-handedly RUINING the X-MEN trilogy..
Now, i LOVED the original BEVERLY HILLS COP (1984, Martin Brest). It was the very first R-rated flick i got to see in a movie theater, a big deal for me at the ripe old age of 7.. Heck, i even loved BEVERLY HILLS COP II (1987, Tony Scott) which was bigger, brasher and even more joyfully obnoxious than the first. (Hey, it was the 80′s.. sequels were just as popular as day-glo colors and cocaine..)
But when BEVERLY HILLS COP III (1994, John Landis) was released in the mid 90′s, the magic that oozed from the first two wasn’t there anymore. The movie was painfully stale and forced, and it was around this time that Mr. Murphy’s career was in a slump.. A slump that would end two years later with the release of one of his best movies ever, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR (1996, Tom Shadyac)..
Paramount is hoping to begin filming in 2009 for a 2010 release date..
Oh well..
end of line, my loves..
